Description

In the final year of his life, Schubert composed two expansive works for voice, piano, and obbligato solo instrument: the clarinet in Der Hirt auf dem Felsen (D 965), and the horn in Auf dem Strom (D 943). The latter work, set to a text by Ludwig Rellstab, was first performed on 26 March 1828 by Schubert himself, alongside hornist Josef Rudolf Lewy and tenor Ludwig Tietze.

However, the work was not published until October 1829 — eleven months after Schubert’s death — when it was assigned the opus number 119 and supplemented with an additional violoncello part.

Our edition includes parts for both horn and cello; a transposed horn part in F is available for download (BA05635-23D).
