“Bagatelles or trifles” – Beethoven’s designation for this group of piano pieces was by no means meant to be derogatory. Rather, it aptly describes the very limited form of these works, which often resulted from the fact that the basic melodic ideas were not suitable for further development. Here, as if under a magnifying glass, Beethoven’s unique style shines through to us. Therefore, it is hardly surprising that some of these miniatures attained great popularity, above all the Bagatelle in a minor, known as “Für Elise”.
This long-awaited revision brings the musical text into line with the latest research.
