Description

The musical world has set out on a great journey of discovery. Women composers who were previously known only to a few are now being performed more frequently. In this regard, Lili Boulanger is considered one of the most important discoveries. In 1913, she became the first woman to win the highest distinction at the prestigious Prix de Rome composition competition. The prize consisted of a scholarship and a study sojourn in the Villa Medici in Rome. Composed there in 1914 were, among other things, several piano pieces, for example “D’un vieux jardin” (From an old garden), “D’un jardin clair” (From a radient garden), and “Cortège” (Procession) that masterfully oscillate between impressionism and modernism, and were published immediately after Boulanger’s death. The Urtext edition of Lili Boulanger’s eminently nuanced piano pieces, for the most part lie well under the fingers, is based above all on the first editions and the autographs. David Kadouch, a specialist for the works of Lili Boulanger, to provided the fingerings. A true enrichment for the piano repertoire!
