Description
The three wind serenades composed in Vienna in 1781/82 – the Serenade in E-flat major K. 375, the Serenade in C minor K. 388 (384a) and the Serenade in B-flat major K. 361 (370a) “Gran Partita” – occupy an important place in Mozart’s instrumental music. In name only, the Serenade K. 388 (384a), which Mozart called “Nacht Musique”, belongs to the divertimento tradition. With its key of C minor, Mozart’s “dramatic” key, which is unusual for entertainment music, the four-movement wind octet is in fact one of his most melancholy compositions.
This set of parts for the C-minor Serenade, like the study score (TP00313) available separately for this work, reproduces the Urtext of the New Mozart Edition.
